Candy AI's checkout leads with a $9.99 first month, but the number that actually shapes your bill is 100. That's the monthly token allowance that generated images and other media draw from, and it matters the moment unlimited text stops being the point. The pricing page lists four ways in:

Premium buys unlimited text plus 100 tokens a month, and extra media can require token purchases on top of that. Free users get less. Per Candy's own documentation, the free tier is five messages across characters, one custom character and one generated image. We could not confirm a replenishing free allowance.
So the subscription is only half the bill. The token meter is the other half, and that second currency is the thread I'm following through every app below.
Credit where it's due, though: $3.99 a month on the annual plan is genuinely cheap. If chat is all you want, that plan is surprisingly sharp, and nothing in this comparison pretends otherwise.

Where a Show Starts Instead of an Empty Chat Box
Candy and most apps like it open the same way, with a chat window and a blinking cursor, and the plot is whatever you type. GoLove.ai opens on a show. So which one is cheapest? On annual billing, Candy AI. Month-to-month, SpicyChat. The catch is that the plan price tells you nothing about the price of a picture. Four of these five apps run media on a second currency (we could not confirm SpicyChat's setup), and we also could not confirm how many tokens or Moments a single image costs on Candy or Secrets. The cheapest plan rarely gives you the cheapest picture. GoLove's is the only per-picture rate in this table we could confirm: one Star, one image.

Here's how the app lays out the loop, start to finish:
- You finish episode 2 of "My AI Girlfriend" and tap Start Chatting under the player.
- You land in Lexie's chat. She's the woman from the episode you just watched, not a stranger with a stock bio.
